Guess who's back, back again. The dinosaurs are back. Tell a friend. Guess who's back. Guess who's back. Guess who's back...
It's hard to read that and not start rapping like Eminem. What dinosaurs and Eminem have in common, we don't know. But it's safe to say we're excited that our favorite gold dinosaurs are back in the showroom. And this time they are dressed and ready for winter! If you've been following our blog, you may have noticed that we have a - small - obsession with dinosaurs. What started off as a table inspired by Elizabeth's daughter's interest in dinosaurs has now to turned into everyone's favorite kid's table series.
To get them ready for winter, we made little scarves using old fabric swatches, pompoms, and lots of patience. One T-Rex even has earmuffs although we're not entirely sure where his ears are... Others are hauling trees on their backs or carrying wreaths, some are having snowball fights and making snowmen. It's like they are having a snow day in a whimsical winter wonderland.
For this table we decided to mix and match prints; using a polka dot tablecloth and plaid napkins. We have a lot of different tablecloth options to chose from; including many patterned options that are super cute but often overlooked. The plaid taffeta has a very subtle gold stripe that helped tie everything together. It's just one of our many plaid options which you can see in last week's linen feature.
Just like mixing metals, mixing prints is a fun way to add interest to a table without necessarily adding cost. To make sure the dinosaurs didn't get lost in the mix of colors and patterns, we added a simple black runner underneath them. Because there were already so many contrasting elements, we wanted to keep the tableware simple.
At each place setting, we used capri gold flatware, duchess salad plate and hi-ball glasses. On top of each plate we added a mug for hot cocoa, which also doubled as a placecard. Our children's gold chaivari chairs lined the table helping anchor all of the gold accents. But if you are looking for a more cost effective table, you could swap the chiavaris for our plastic white chairs and it would be just as cute!
We are so happy with how our dinosaur winter wonderland table came together. Stop by our Columbia showroom this winter to see it all in person!
